The Mercer County Sheriff's Office is the largest law enforcement agency in the County and patrols all 569 square miles of the
County. The department also provides police service to Matherville and Village of Joy by contract. The patrol division is supervised by Sheriff Dusty Terrill and Chief Deputy Jason Monson. Mercer County deputies patrol all areas of and respond to all calls for assistance within their jurisdiction and assist and cooperate with all local police departments, Illinois State Police, and other outside agencies. The patrol division is the most visible function of the Sheriff's Office. Deputies assigned to patrol perform several specialized duties, including Sergeants, a K-9 unit, an accident investigator, evidence technicians, tactical officers, field training officers, firing range officers, juvenile officers.
